🕯️ International Holocaust Remembrance Day — January 27 🕯️
Today, we pause to remember the six million Jewish victims and the millions of others who were murdered during the Holocaust, marking the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau. We remember, we reflect, and we recommit to ensuring these stories are never forgotten.
Here in Sioux City, the Holocaust Rails exhibit at the Sioux City Railroad Museum offers a powerful and moving opportunity to learn from this history. Centered around a World War II-era German railroad boxcar, the exhibit tells the story of how railroads were used during the Holocaust and honors the lives forever changed by these events.
ℹ️ Please note: The Holocaust Rails exhibit is currently closed for the winter season and will reopen on weekends beginning in April.
When it reopens, we invite visitors to experience this important exhibit and take time for reflection, education, and remembrance.

🎉 Congratulations to the Sioux City Railroad Museum! 🎉
One of Sioux City’s most distinctive tourism attractions just received a major boost. The National Park Service has awarded a federal grant to support flood recovery and long-term mitigation at the Milwaukee Railroad Shops Historic District, home of the Sioux City Railroad Museum.
For visitors, this means an even stronger, more resilient place to explore authentic railroad history and experience a site that helped shape Sioux City. Investments like this ensure that unique, place-based attractions remain part of what makes a trip to Siouxland memorable—today and for generations to come.
Congratulations to the Sioux City Railroad Museum on this well-deserved recognition, and thank you for preserving a destination where history, resilience, and discovery come together. 🚂✨

We honor the life and enduring legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., whose words and actions continue to challenge and inspire generations.
“Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.”
— Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
On this day of remembrance and reflection, may we recommit ourselves to kindness, service, and the ongoing work of building a more just and compassionate world.
Be sure to check out the series of bronze MLK Jr. busts and plagues outside the Martin Luther King Jr. Transportation Center along Nebraska Street between 5th and 6th Streets.
