The Sioux City Sports Commission helps promote youth sports, high school athletic activities, collegiate athletics, Special Olympics, and other non-professional sporting events in the Sioux City area. The Sioux City Sports Commission was created to promote such previous, current, and future events as the NAIA Volleyball National Championship, NAIA Wrestling National Championship, NAIA Div. II Women’s Basketball National Championship, NAIA Baseball World Series Opening Round, USA Wrestling Olympic Team Trials, USHL Fall Classic, NAIA Softball World Series, and others.
To enhance Sioux City’s economy, image, and quality of life through the strategic solicitation, attraction and promotion of sports-related events.
In August 2026, Siouxland welcomed Team USA Handball for an unforgettable four-day stay as the Men’s Senior National Team faced Team Canada in two Olympic qualifying games at the Long Lines Family Recreation Center. Team USA took both victories, advancing one step closer to the 2027 Pan American Games and the road to LA28.
The excitement reached beyond the court, with Team USA athletes connecting with local fans through clinics, community events, and meet-and-greets. To commemorate their time in Siouxland, Explore Siouxland had the team sign two handballs—one now displayed at the Sioux City Public Museum, while the other was raffled off to a young girl who had just discovered the sport. Her family was so inspired by the experience that they’re now planning a trip to Los Angeles to cheer on Team USA as they pursue Olympic gold!
