South Sioux City

Nestled right next to Iowa and South Dakota in the Tri-State Region is South Sioux City, NE, “Where Quality of Life is a Cardinal Rule!” We are the portal to two Nebraska Scenic Byways: The Lewis and Clark Scenic Byway and the Outlaw Trail. Combs School was built in 1857 and closed in 1964. The frame schoolhouse is part of Nebraska’s pioneer heritage- the oldest school building in Dakota County and one of the oldest in Nebraska. The O’Connor House is a 14-room mansion located 1 mile east of Homer. Constructed over a 10-year period from 1865-1875, the mansion was built on a rock. Listed on the National Register of Historic places, it is run by the Dakota County Historical Society. Scenic Park has a YMCA, tennis court, swimming pool, 5 softball/baseball fields, 15 soccer fields and miles of paved walking and biking trails.

At the Sioux City Railroad Museum, the Holocaust Rails Exhibit offers a powerful look at how the rail system played a role in one of history’s darkest chapters — honoring those impacted and reminding us of the importance of remembrance, empathy, and education. 🕯️

Located within the historic Sioux City Railroad Museum, the exhibit is part of the museum’s mission to preserve and share the stories of our railroading past — from innovation and industry to the lessons of humanity and history.

📅 Open weekends through November | Closed for winter | Reopens April 2026
