TONIGHT: Thursday April 23 in Sioux City🎶🎻
Experience music, history, and remembrance woven together in a truly powerful setting.

Set within the Holocaust Rails Exhibit at the Sioux City Railroad Museum, Violins of Hope: Music in the Shadow of the Rails is an intimate chamber performance you won’t soon forget. Performed by the Sioux City Symphony String Quartet, the evening features works by composers like Erwin Schulhoff and Mieczysław Weinberg—artists whose lives and music were shaped by the Holocaust.

Using instruments from the Violins of Hope collection, this performance brings history to life through sound, including a moving rendition of Maurice Ravel’s Kaddish for solo violin.

Hosted by Music Director Ryan Haskins, this is more than a concert—it’s a moment to reflect, remember, and bear witness.

🕯️ Thursday April 23 | 6:30–8:00 PM

The fairways were full of fierce competition this week at Dakota Dunes! ⛳️

Explore Siouxland was proud to serve as a destination partner for the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Men’s Golf Championship, which wrapped up yesterday at Dakota Dunes Country Club.

Congratulations to this year’s champions; Hastings on the title and Max Nielsen the medalist, and to every student-athlete who brought their best to the course—we loved being part of the action and welcoming you to the region!

And the excitement isn’t over yet… the GPAC Women’s Golf Championship tees off next week. We’re looking forward to another incredible round of competition in Siouxland! 🏌️‍♀️

From our Executive Director, Stacie Anderson:

Today I had the privilege of meeting George Foreman's family. Within seconds, I could feel the love and the legacy that lives on in their hearts. Today wasn't about George as a heavyweight boxing champion, but about the man who instilled character and integrity into his family's legacy, who encouraged everyone to love more. This family, and the world, lost a great man last year. It was his wish to be eternally laid to rest in the Loess Hills, and so, the family quietly honored that request burying him at Logan Park Cemetery on April 17, 2025.

Now, one year later, his family has unveiled a striking monument overlooking the Loess Hills, sharing their gratitude with the Siouxland community and reflecting on a life defined by faith, purpose, and resilience. A documentary sharing more about his connection to Iowa and this final chapter is currently in the works and will be released soon on exploresiouxland.com.
