On Tuesday, September 2, 2025, at 10:00am, the Betty Strong Encounter Center is hosting in its atrium a press conference and book signing to celebrate author Jim Tillman’s new book, Voices of Resilience: African Americans, Vol IV, Sioux City, Iowa.
This book celebrates the diversity of the people who call Sioux City their hometown. As Jim writes, “In this volume…you too will see that African Americans give soul to Sioux City, wings to Iowa, flight to America, and life to the world.”
Tillman has written three other books: The Journal of African American History Vol I; The Black Experience: 1950’s Sioux City, Iowa; and Black History Narratives 1855-1900 Sioux City, Iowa.
He is a Youth Advisor at Sioux City NAACP Youth Council and a Multimedia Storyteller at Sioux City Black History.
