What happens when a parking space becomes something other than a place to park? On Friday, September 18, downtown Sioux City will find out!

PARK(ing) Day is a globally recognized event that temporarily transforms parking spaces into places for creativity, play, interaction, and community. From 10:00am – 2:00pm, ordinary 8′ x 16′ parking spaces near 4th & Jones Streets will become something entirely different and the possibilities are up to the people who fill them.

PARK(ing) Day began in San Francisco in 2005 with a single parking space and has since grown into an annual event celebrated in cities around the world. The idea is simple: rethink how we use public space and imagine what could happen if a parking spot became a place for people instead of cars. Think mini parks. Games. Art installations. Outdoor reading rooms. Interactive experiences. Public seating. Creative workshops. Or something completely unexpected.

PARK(ing) Day is free and open to the public, but we need creative people to fill the spaces! Businesses, nonprofits, artists, community groups, and individuals are all invited to register for one of 22 available parking spaces. Spaces will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis.

Registration is open until Monday September 7 or when all spots are full.
